Initially production of Ford tractors was split between the subsidiary company, Fordson in Europe and machines in the USA were manufactured under the name of Ford. However, in the mid-1960s the two brands were consolidated and a new line of global tractors was established. In the 1980s, Ford took over the company, New Holland and formed a new tractor line, Ford-New Holland. However, this arrangement was short-lived and in 1990, Ford sold its entire farm equipment interests to Fiat. Fiat continued production but began to phase out the Ford name. The last model that Ford produced under its own name was the TW series: 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35. The TW series ran through the 1980s and had its final production in 1994. The original TW series model, the TW-5 had 122hp and this had risen to 187hp with the final model, the TW-35.
The predecessor to the TW series was the FW range, which had a larger horsepower in the range (from 210hp to 335hp), however the TW range was really the natural successor to the seminal range of machines, the 2000-9000 series. The 8000-9000 range continued production into the 1990s as part of the Ford-New Holland alliance.
